As the Thanksgiving Holiday nears, our children will be getting a vacation from their schools. Some will spend most of their time playing outside or playing with their game boys, computers, electronic games and such.
As parent's we are responsible for teaching our children how to bless others. During this Holiday vacation, why not inspire the children take a serious look at what toys in their rooms they really play with and which ones they have out grown, or no longer have any interest in. Having them gather up the toys that are still intact (having all their original parts) and separating them from the junk that has missing pieces or is messed up in some other way. This way you will be able to get rid of the real clutter they have been hanging on to when they get rid of the messed up toys. Then you can inspire them put together a box of good toys for the unfortunate children in the community. Or you can have them sell the good toys at a yard sale and use the money earned to buy new toys for the unfortunate children in the community. We could even inspire them to include their friends in the neighborhood to make it a real event.
When we listen to the news broadcasts during the holiday seasons, we are all reminded that there are less fortunate children out there than the ones we have at home. This alone, should inspire us to teach our children at a young age to give, so the giving process becomes a natural part of their lives and they grow up into giving adults. I know that we will all be busy during this time, but inspiring our children to have constructive goals will go a long way into their future. Not only will they be blessing another child, they will also be blessed.
