Thanksgiving Preparations

2 Nov 2007

As we look at our calendars, we see it is already November and our eyes will probably travel straight to November 22, Thanksgiving Day. This month will be a very busy month for millions of people and many of us will want to start our Thanksgiving preparations early. The earlier the preparations are done the more time we have to relax and enjoy the Holiday. But are we properly preparing for our Thanksgiving.

Our preparations for giving thanks, should start early in the morning and every day of the year. As soon as we open our eyes, we should give thanks to our Lord for the rest He has provided us and the new day He has given us. As we sit up in our bed or stand up from our bed, we should give Him thanks because we are able.

Many of us are more fortunate than we may realize on a daily basis, and we should be thankful from the time we wake to the time we lay our heads down for the night. Be thankful for the little things like a warm shower, toothpaste and a tooth brush, a bar of soap, the first cup of coffee or tea, breakfast on the table, warm clean clothes to wear to the job we have that provides a steady paycheck that pays for the car we drive and the electricity we have to cook the food that we eat. A warm hug and kiss from our family members as we pass one another during your busy morning. And these are only a few of our daily blessings. Let us not just count our blessings everyday, but give thanks to our Lord for them also.

As we thank the Lord for the blessings we have on a daily basis, let us also ask the Lord to lead us to those who are less fortunate than we are so we may share our blessings, however small or large they may be, with someone He puts on our heart.

I believe Thanksgiving to the Lord is giving the love He has given to us and thanking Him by sharing it with others. Let us prepare ourselves to follow His lead for Thanksgiving.
